McDonald's Strawberry Shakes, sold in the US, contain food dyes. The dye is not in the ice cream but rather in the "Strawberry Shake Syrup". This syrup contains the Red 40 dye.
Interestingly, the strawberry shakes sold in the UK and other European nations do not have commercial dyes. Instead, it has beetroot juice and actual strawberries.
Hmmmm...
Does McDonald's think were stupid?
Maybe we are. We are not protesting about the inclusion of the red food dye that has been linked to cancer.

McDonald's must think Americans just don't care what they consume.
Maybe we don't care because we continue to purchase the drink.

Maybe McDonald's just don't care about the health of Americans but rather the American dollar.
The mere fact that other nations do not have the red food dye in their McDonald milkshake shows that political and legal pressure in necessary to evoke a change. Without external pressure, companies will choose cheaper means to produce products and earn profits.
